2018 Ford F-250 will lose weight and improve its torque

There’s no limit to dominant performance in the pickup truck segment as global automakers are always striving for more power. Ford is probably the most successful and has been reigning champion of this domain for over three decades now. The company’s F-series of pickup trucks are segmented heavyweights, especially the Ford F-250, which focuses on both comfort and utility. To continue its successful run, the next-gen line-up of Ford F-series is in plans among which 2018 Ford F-250 might take the most credit.

What is new for 2018?

Ford will try its best to lose that extra weight. Doing this would include removal of sway bar, unnecessary clogging on the suspension and extensive use of aluminum on engine parts. Ford will use compacted graphite iron for the engine block and aluminum heads for the cylinders. Also, newly designed lightweight aluminum alloy wheels are on the cards. All this may finally make the F-250 reach better EPA figures and improve on its hauling capacity.

2018 Ford F-250 – Performance

Ford has always assured reliable performance and capabilities in every single pickup truck. For new F-250, the makers are going all out. The 6.2 liter V8 gasoline engine will be retained along with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This gasoline engine is going to receive several tweaks and its output might be improved to 390 HP and 410 lb-ft of torque.

There’s going to be another engine option; the 440 HP churning 6.7 liter Power Stroke® turbocharged V8. This diesel burner will also undergo revisions and its best-in-class torque might finally touch the (long anticipated) 1000 lb-ft mark. To set such a benchmark, Ford might tweak this mill for a faster air displacement with the help of an inverse flow configuration.

Apart from the meaty engine outputs, 2018 Ford F-250 will improve the fuel savings too. The improved EPA ratings might measure at 17 mpg in city, 24 mpg on highways and 20 mpg on a combined scale.

Exterior and Interior Changes

Exterior styling should be another parameter where this 2018 Ford F-250 gets the most changes. As part of the generational refreshment, the front fenders of this pickup might be beefed up for a hunky body profile. The large signature grille will come with a new robust styling and chrome trims.  Slight revisions are due for the cargo bed with new chrome bed liners. A cargo monitoring system will come as standard on the base model.

Similarly, the interior cabin is also due for some revisions. This time, Ford is supposed to get rid of all the chunky plastic trims and instead use wooden and metallic highlights for superior embellishments. The central cabin is also supposed to get a clean layout and integrate under-cab storage. Ford SYNC® infotainment system will come updated along with MyFord Touch®.

Price, Availability and Competitors

Predictions are that this 2018 Ford F-250 will come during the last quarters of 2017. Its starting price will be close to $33,750, which is the price of the current model. This only means that pickup trucks like RAM 2500 and Chevrolet Silverado HD will face tougher competition in times to come.
